Trump and Xi Set for High-Stakes China Summit Amid Trade and Iran Tensions
Mr. Trump departed from the White House on Tuesday and is expected to reach Beijing on Wednesday morning, according to Eastern Daylight Time. Beijing operates 12 hours ahead of Washington.
Trade discussions are expected to dominate the talks between the two leaders, although tensions involving Iran and disruptions in the Persian Gulf supply chain are also likely to play a major role.
On Monday, the president said the leaders would additionally discuss energy matters and Taiwan. Xi continues to push for Taiwan to return under Beijing’s control without interference from the United States.
